The Beauty of Food

Cy DeCosse prowls the farmer’s markets looking for the fruits and vegetables that look most photogenic for the platinum printing process. The San Ambrosio and San Lorenzo markets in Florence and the Hmong dominated Farmer’s Market in Minneapolis are wonderfully diverse sources.

"Cy DeCosse’s fruits and vegetables are a celebration of nature at her most exuberant. As he explores the texture of dried onion skins, the opulent forms of pears, the graceful design of a squash stem, the energy of sprouts bursting from a potato, the earthiness of dirt clinging to mushrooms, we discover all that has been lost in the antiseptic, plastic-swathed produce of modern supermarkets – a reverence for the infinitely varied beauty of the natural world in all its wondrous forms."
